This Can’t Wait

Read the update to this post here.

We’ve been busy here at DIG and haven’t had as much time to post as we’d like. We love this blog, but our client work comes first. While we don’t normally talk about our client work here, this month we have a rare exception. Occasionally we have a project that touches our hearts in a way that changes our lives and our attitudes. Burma: It Can’t Wait is one of those projects, and with the recent cyclone and the need to get aid to the citizens of Burma (also reported as Myanmar in the news), this campaign is even more important. If you want to learn more about the campaign, please take a look at the site or add the application to your Facebook profile and help us raise one million voices of support for Burma.

As part of our commitment to the people of Burma, Digital Influence Group will contribute $10 to the U.S. Campaign for Burma for each unique, non-spam comment or trackback to this post, up to $5,000 total. The deadline for commenting is May 31, 2008, because for Burma: It Can’t Wait.

Thank you for taking a stand and getting the word out and being willing to do something to help. Humanity is our most precious resource, we have to care for one another, no matter how far away we are. God bless!

I’m actually really glad about this I was just saying that we should do something for Burma… My original semseter at sea voyage was supposed to go there, but because the political turmoil was getting so bad we couldn’t make port there. It’s so sad that after all they are going through, they get hit by such a catastrophe.

  • 9. Rachel Money  |  May 15th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

I have heard a lot about Burma lately and the conditions there are really shocking. I’m glad that I am starting to hear more about parts of the world that need attention.

  • 11. c  |  May 15th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

I’m glad organizations like yours are reaching college students. Students can get so busy with their everyday responsibilities we often forget about the world, especially when it’s so far removed.

Thank you so very much for helping to create awareness of the terrible plight that has defined Burma for years.
It’s time we all generously provide aid and compassion to the Burmese, especially in such an exceptionally dire time of need.
It IS possible to change the ways of Burma and this is one great way to start.

  • 15. Amanda  |  May 15th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

However, it is also situations like these that remind me the kindness and love of the human spirit. We all need to help out and do as much as possible. We need to unite and help those in Burma. This cannot wait!

Thank you for initiating discussion and awareness on such an imperative topic. Chances are, the numbers and facts reported to us are skewed by Burmese government, and the only way we are even going to have any clue as to what is going on over there is through communication and aid. I am thankful this site is attempting to do just that.

It’s great to see so many Non-profits are now getting to help the Burma (Myanmar) cause. We are one of the same based in Bangkok, Thailand and have been running for a few years now. With our founder actually working on the cause for over 15 years. As you can imagine, the problems caused by Nargis are a nightmare for what was already a nightmare for the citizens of Myanmar. We specifically try and assist those that have already decided (before the cyclone) that living under this crazed Junta is just too much to bare any longer. Unfortunately, when they get to Thailand they find other up-hill troubles. We try and assist in any way we are able and the vast majority of the Burmese work for next to nothing due to the Thai’s knowing that they are often illegal immigrants. When they do work there children are left to fend for themselves and are not able to go to school. Again we have 10 schools in total but all of which were lost in the cyclone. We have been assisted by a fantastic agency, namely: Scottish International Relief (SIR) and more specifically an arm of them, Mary’s Meals who are financing one hot meal a day to our school children (which is now approaching 800). If you get a chance, please take a look at what we do as indeed what we do is what we’ve done for a long time and will be doing so for as long as we are able! One of our pride and joy quotations is “That we do not waste one Baht (read your currency) on ourselves, when we meet for our monthly meetings we pay to get there, pay for coffee or soda if we have it and pay to get home.”
Good luck to your efforts to raise the 5000 target and more importantly, May those on high give the Burmese people a break that they so desperately deserve.
    Regards to all,
Steve Tostevin - Voluntary Webmaster of
