OurChart is a new social networking site for women created by Ilene Chaiken (Executive Producer of the Showtime series “The L Word”) and others from the show. The site features exclusive original editorial and multimedia content, celebrity guest bloggers, interactive contests, previously unreleased “L Word” related material as well as user-generated content.
According to hollywoodreporter.com’s Gail Schiller, “OurChart is believed to be the first U.S.-based social networking site launched around an entertainment property.” It will be interesting to see if other shows will be quick to jump on the social networking train.

Everyone has different standards for what they share/forward to their friends and family online. One of my sisters appears to have no such standards – tasteless jokes, pictures that make me cringe, and animations that could get me fired.
I think the stuff I share is qualitatively better; that my family and friends think to themselves, “Wow, Kristin thought this was cool, so it must be worth checking out!” On a side note, at 33 I still think that Jaws could live in my parent’s swimming pool – a slight drawback to having an overactive imagination.
So anyway, I’ll let you be the judge. Here are five things I couldn’t resist sharing in 2006.
1) Brawny Academy – “I’m the Brawny Man, but my friends just call me Brawny Man.” Thank you Georgia-Pacific for taking a risk on highly entertaining online advertising. Don’t know if it sold paper towels, but it sure cracked me up.
2) Matt Harding – Kudos to Stride Gum for sending Matt around the world to create this awesome video of himself dancing in amazing places. The resulting video ranks among YouTube’s Most Viewed (All Time) list.
3) Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty – Maybe I’m revealing my sappy side here, but yeah Dove for creating a campaign worth being proud of. Truth speaks volumes and may develop brand loyalty.
4) Ze Frank – Here’s a concept: a video blogger with talent, intelligence and a killer sense of humor. You go Ze!
5) Brookers – She’s the frosting on my mini-wheats – not high quality, but it’s the sugar that gets me through the day. I think it’s her irreverence that brings me back again and again. She ranks #4 among YouTube’s Most Subscribed (All Time) channels.

NBC’s “It’s Your Show” (IYS) is up and running. Carson Daly has recruited YouTube’s equally loved and hated darling, Brookers, to tap into the social media phenomenon. The goal is to push viral video to the next level.
It works like this. Pick a challenge, read the rules, click on the toolkits and create your original video. All the ingredients needed – music, video clips, sound effects, etc. — are only a click away. The catch is you that can’t run stuff on IYS that isn’t yours or from the toolkits.
Hoping to win the weekly $1,000 or the ultimate $100,000 prize, a lot of users are submitting videos. Unfortunately, most of the videos lack the charm, wacky personality and irreverence of Brookers.
Corporate America is trying to tap into social media and harness it to its advantage. But the real draw of social media is that it’s unrestrained and uncensored. You can’t push the viral video world to the next level when you’re placing restraints on it. IYS says, “We know it’s harsh but this is the big time.”
IYS is not your show. It’s big time NBC’s. It’s forced and watered down — a homework assignment with a $1,000 carrot.
